Coffee Maker?

I'm so confused with the concept of a coffee maker.
What makes a coffee maker better than the other?

I got a pretty good coffee maker as a wedding present, but it seems like no matter what kind of coffee I brew with it, they all taste the same!!!

How is that possible?
