E-mail. Reliable?

Why did I put so much faith in technology?

The story began a long time ago where this naive girl thinks that email is a reliable form of communication. She would write an email and patiently wait for her friends to reply. They always seem to reply, so she decided to have complete faith in this new technology called electronic mail, which is faster than regular mail.. or so it seems.

The girl grew up and she took a Computer Networks class. Then she realized that this email technology is definitely NOT reliable. Dropped packets and the many layers of the network has shaken her belief. It uses probability theory? What???? It's not 100% guarantee?

Yet, all her friends still reply to her emails. She gets all her important messages. She sighs with relief. She thinks that her prof is wrong. E-mail is reliable.

Today, she realizes that email is not reliable. Her profs are not getting her emails. They don't know what happened to it. Could it be that it went to bulk? Could it be that the message just never made it? She would never know...
